For The Stallion Owner

Dear Stallion Owner:

The New York Stallion Service Auction Committee would like to invite you to nominate your breeding stallion to our 2016 Service Auction by donating a breeding contract. Our goal is to raise as much prize money as possible for the SSA Sweepstakes classes at the NY Regional. In order to achieve that goal, we reserve the right to limit participation to those stallions that the committee feels will bring the highest bids. Although you are not required to guarantee the minimum bid for your stallion, if you do, your stallion is more likely to be selected to participate.

As always, there is no fee for any stallion's service contract to be included in the NY Stallion Service Auction. By participating in the New York SSA, each stallion owner/agent is given excellent advertising opportunities. We maintain a beautiful website and are on Facebook. Each stallion owner/agent may submit pictures of their stallion, along with pictures of his notable offspring and a descriptive write up, that are posted on your stallion’s own page. This page also includes the opportunity for email contact and a link to your farm’s website. Please take a look. In 2013, we were be the first stallion service auction to offer LIVE, online bidding through the services of DV Auction.  There were a few glitches in our first year that we hope have been ironed out. We also do promotional ads in all of the major Morgan publications. This is a great opportunity for stallions just starting their career to establish a name for themselves. For stallions who are well known, this is an opportunity to improve the breed. With phone and online bidding we can accommodate interested breeders from the entire country and around the world. Although the stallion owner does not receive any money from the breeding, it also doesn’t cost you anything, as the mare owner pays the collection or storage fees and shipping.

The NY SSA offers 3 Sweepstakes classes at the NY Regional Championship show for ALL offspring of the stallions whose services are sold at our Stallion Service Auction. Proceeds from the auction, plus any accumulated interest, is paid out as prize money in the Sweepstakes classes. In 2012 we added $5,000 bonus money in the Weanling Sweepstakes class! Only owners of donated stallions and successful bidders are eligible to compete for the bonus money. The bonus money will be evenly divided amongst all eligible weanlings who place in the top 10. If all of the Top Ten weanlings are ELIGIBLE, the minimum bonus is $500.  In 2013, the Weanling Sweepstakes winner took home $3,195 in prize money plus $833 in bonus money for a total of $4,028.  There are two performance classes for 4 year olds and in 2013 the winner of each class took home $8,117, the reserve took home $4,058, and the eighth place took home $609! Of course, the more money we take in at the auction, the more prize money there will be.

In addition, the nomination fee for the stallion is paid in full by the NY SSA when a foal is nominated to the NYSMHS Futurity, giving your stallion’s offspring ANOTHER chance to win prize money. AND, if that offspring is either Champion or Reserve in the Futurity classes, YOU will receive the prize money that goes to the nominator of the stallion. This is an incentive to the members of the New York State Morgan Horse Society to buy from the auction, with the potential for prize money for you.

The 2016 Auction will be held on January 30th at Hope Lake Lodge in Cortland, NY with educational programs, food and drink for those in attendance. Hope Lake Lodge is a full-service resort, spa, ski lodge and indoor water park with accommodations and dining options for a wide range of budgets. You and your agent will have the opportunity to have a promotional display and talk with breeders about your stallion during the cocktail party prior to the auction. If you have never attended the NY Stallion Service Auction, it's an opportunity that you won't want to miss. Alternatively, if you can't make it to NY in January, if you provide the materials, we will set up a display table at the auction promoting your stallion for you. We plan to show a Power Point presentation of our stallions and their offspring during the cocktail hour preceding the auction and will show your horse and his offspring while his contract is being auctioned.

If you have questions, feel free to contact any committee member by clicking on the Contact Us tab.  There will be a sales catalog for the 2016 Auction. Therefore, we need to receive your contract no later than December 1st. Of course, the sooner we receive your commitment, the sooner we will start promoting your stallion!
